The values of honesty, transparency, accountability, respect, collaboration and inclusion underpin our work. As a result, Sumner Hall has become a trusted community space where discussions and action planning about racial injustice, police-youth relations, and food insecurity take place. It is also a venue for celebration and the site of relevant exhibitions and educational programs.
Everything that takes place at Sumner Hall expresses our tri-fold mission.
Sumner Hall:
- honors the contributions of African Americans who have served in the armed services from revolutionary war days to the present;
- promotes an understanding of the African American experience within the overall context of American history and culture; and
- advocates for social and racial justice in all areas of civic life.
