2022 Justice Day

Justice Day

THANK YOU! Thanks to everyone who helped make Justice Day 2022 such a memorable experience!

JUSTICE DAY
in pursuit of Racial Equity in Chestertown
Saturday, May 14, 2022 1 pm – 3 pm
Park Row / Fountain Park Chestertown, Maryland

Location change: Due to the very high probability of rain, we will hold the program in the hall of Emmanuel Episcopal Church (101 North Cross Street).
Thank you, Emmanuel parish members, for your generosity!

Justice Day is produced by the
James Taylor Justice Coalition of Sumner Hall
in collaboration with the
Community Remembrance Project,
Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), Montgomery, Alabama.

Please join us to observe Justice Day 2022. Speakers, musicians, singers and other local performers will help us confront the past and aspire toward a future marked by fairness and justice for all. In addition, we will recognize student essayists from Kent County High School who participated in an Essay Contest sponsored by the Equal Justice Initiation. The program will conclude with a Soil Collection Ceremony at the site of the 1892 lynching of James Taylor, one of nearly 5,000 African Americans who were lynched in American between 1882 and 1968. Jars of this soil will be place at Sumner Hall in Chestertown and at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama. A group of Kent County adults and young people will deliver the soil from Chestertown in July 2022 as part of a Civil Rights Bus trip co-sponsored by Sumner Hall and Minary’s Dream Alliance.
